Bettendorf students collect athletic shoes

Bettendorf High School’s Students Against Violating the Earth, or SAVE, club will coordinate a collection of used athletic shoes for the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program.

The program takes old, worn out athletic shoes and transforms them into a raw material called Nike Grind that is used in creating athletic and playground surfaces and several Nike products. Any brand of athletic shoes can be recycled. Damp or muddy shoes, shoes with metal or cleats and dress shoes, sandals or flip-flops will not be accepted.

The public is invited to bring used athletic shoes through May 25 to Bettendorf High School, 3333 18th St.; Bettendorf Middle School, 2030 Middle Road; Grant Wood Elementary School, 1423 Hillside Drive; Herbert Hoover Elementary School, 3223 S. Hampton; Mark Twain Elementary School, 1620 Lincoln Road; Neil Armstrong Elementary School 3311 Central Avenue; Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, 610 Holmes St.; or the Administration Center, 800 23rd St.
